Imagining, creating, and being surrounded by my pieces and those of other artists has filled my life with joy, imagination, and awe. Thank you for allowing me to share my artwork with you.
-Sarahbeth Barlas :)
Dr. Sarahbeth Barlas, DVM has been making art since childhood: illustrations, sculpture, crafts -they have all flowed from her. Fantasy elements incorporating equines, fish, canines, and an array of other real and mystical and imaginary creatures fill her studio. Working in mixed media she has played and explored with acrylic, pencil, pastel, clay, watercolor, make-up, and inks on both traditional flatwork and 3D models.
Sarahbeth's involvement with the model horse hobby began with a beloved carpet herd of felted and plastic ponies, many of whom she still shares her home with today. In the early 2000's she started customizing models and making tack. In April 2009, Sarahbeth opened her online studio where she began marketing SSS's Flashy Stable Halters and accessories to the public catalog style. The pieces were sold through local shops, art and craft fairs, at model horse live show events, and online. In December of 2010, Sarahbeth became the editor of Model Horse Performance magazine until it was discontinued in 2014. For the 15 year anniversary of SSS's, Sarahbeth founded MHAR, Model Horse Artist Retreat -a means for model horse artists to gather and create together.
After a decade of professional study in animal behavior, welfare, and medicine, Sarahbeth became a veterinarian. In October 2022, she founded a mobile-hybrid veterinary hospital, Home Care Veterinary Services, PLLC. Sarahbeth loves to read, watch, and listen to fantasy and science fiction stories; experiment with cooking; create unique costumes for Halloween and fairs; visit with family; and travel either on vacations or within her own town -she has never understood how anyone could be bored with so many amazing things to learn, do, and see!
